MARCOS MILEWSKI

Marcos Milewski (1959) is a painter of Polish origin and Argentinian-French nationality. He was born in Cordoba, Argentina. Nowadays, he lives and works in Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal.

Defining Milewski’s painting according fashionable artistic tendencies would be simplistic, because his inspiration sources come from several cultures and influences: from early Renaissance Flemish painters (Jan Van Eyck, Petrus Christus, Patinir) to great XVIIth century artists as Velásquez and Vermeer, till XXth century creators as Magritte, Escher, Hopper, Balthus , Antonio López García., Richter, Mueck, etc.

Professor and Philosopher Dr. Arturo García Astrada (National University of Córdoba) suggests a comment about his work:

“On the one hand, in his paintings Milewski seems to stop his glance at reality without any hurry and, even defying time, he seems to slowly insist in that reality, trying not to interfere, trying not to unmake it, letting it be just as it shows itself to his view.

However, on the other hand, that reality respected and showed by him in its innocent virginity, gives testimony not only of itself but also of an unexpected touch of magic that transcends it.”

Curriculum vitae

1985 He studies etching with S. W. Hayter at Atelier 17, Paris, France

1977-1979 He investigates methods and materials used by artists from XIIIth to XVIIth centuries at School of Arts, Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities, National University of Cordoba, Argentina

1973-1978 He studies drawing and painting with Alvaro Izurieta in Cordoba, Argentina
